The products in the store were likely products cheap and easy to get in the area they were filming. I think Bill said filming was in Belgrade? I wouldn’t expect any more from a low budget indie.
Some decent one liners in this one:
“It’s a gas station; it’s not like it’s rocket surgery”
“If you ever get tired of not having a man around, you know, ah. . . I’m always open 24 hours.”
Maybe… but I don’t think so. Everything was the same generic brand, and in English. And if they went to those lengths to recreate a gas station and convenience store in the South, they weren’t going to display products from that area. But anyway, it was a very good flick.
Thanks for the shout-out for my podcast, Jay! Interesting film. Putting it on my 2020 horror to-watch list (rapidly growing despite the pandemic – just heard about a new werewolf movie called The Wolf of Snow Hollow that sounds pretty rad. Also, if Open 24 Hours touches on PTSD, it sounds like a potential movie for Freaks and Psychos! Sooo many horror movies have incorporated PTSD-like symptoms/behavior even if they don’t call it that. Seems like a very useful plot device.
Also, awesome to hear about Ron Martin’s book. I’ll have to check that out too!
I went in blind on this one. I watched it prior to listening to you guys discuss it and was pleasantly surprised the whole way through. Solid gore, the story was engaging and moved along at a good pace. I didn’t find the ending too problematic, although I don’t have high expectations if there were to be a sequel.
As for the generic products, I didn’t realize while watching it that the whole set, including all the products were created specifically for this film.. in Belgrade no less. I appreciate the artistry and craft.
