  1. Fun episode. I actually watched Darlin’ right before seeing Black Christmas. It was okay. It didn’t make my honorable mentions list. It’s not my type of horror movie, but I rated it a 6/10 and a rental recommendation.

The Taking of Deborah Logan – I have to say I am not a big fan of found footage movies or the convention in general. I agree with Bill in that I am glad we’re seeing less and less of these. They have greenlit a new Paranormal Activity movie, so we may see it again if it proves to be profitable. I agree with Phantom with the Blair Witch Project, which also left me confused as to why people thought it was scary. The idea of someone holding a camera and recording everything, even though there are dangerous elements at play is ridiculous. No one would do this. I think the original Cloverfield is an entertaining movie and probably the best example of the convention being used.

I think the use of Alzheimer’s in this movie is pretty disrespectful to people suffering from this disease. She even says she doesn’t want to be exploited, but that is exactly what is taking place. The first half of the movie, I was feeling bad for her as they played up the medical part of it. I just feel like if a person is always getting up in the middle of the night and ends up hurting herself, you have to restrain her so that doesn’t happen. But they let it go for way too long.

By the second half of the movie, where it turns into the snake cult murders, I was taken out of the film’s context and it simply didn’t work for me at all. Though the practical effects were nice, it just kept playing up all the typical stuff you see in found footage and I was shaking my head in disappointment. This is another example of why I don’t like these types of films. The Taking of Deborah Logan is a 4/10 and an avoid.

Special thanks to the Phantom for your kind comments on Jason’s top 10 horror movies of 2019 episode on Considering The Cinema #13. You guys were able to put together a very entertaining episode. I hope you are able to guest on future episodes in the future.

I did see BillChete’s pick Harpoon in October. It is a film that did make my honorable mentions list for 2019. It should be fun to dissect the cast and story of this movie. This was a great year for horror and a great year for Horror Movie Weekly. Looking forward to 2020 and many great seasons for HMW in the future.
    Happy New Year everyone!

    1. THANK YOU. I also think this film disrespects the people who suffer from Alzheimer’s. We were listening to the episode today, and when Jay says that the scariness of this resides in the same place as vampires, zombies, etc. I just said to Bill “the difference is that those don’t exist. Alzheimer’s does, and it is serious.” I see your rating is not far from mine.

Thank you, Sean. You’re too kind. I had a lot of fun in Jay’s top ten episode. I also hope I can be there again!

I hope you have a great and very prosperous 2020. All the best!
