  2. You don’t have to feel guilty Sean for enjoying Boar, it’s a pure bread fun and entertaining horror movie!

And you nailed my same rating on Tigers Are Not Afraid, so dang overrated it’s not funny! I don’t even get the love for the movie no one has made a credible/accurate argument for it!

    Thanks for commenting!

  3. I agree with Lady… Midsommer
was pretty overrated. I think it tried too hard to be introspective and artsy. What pissed me off the most was they didn’t even splurge on real flowers. Fake flowers?!

I haven’t seen the lighthouse but not planning on rushing to see it.

I like a good fun horror movie so I’ll see Boar on your recommendations.

I also think it might be hard for you all to come to an agreement on what is horror. For instance, I agree with Jay that Killing of a Sacred Deer is iffy but Bill you obviously are adamant it is. So I guess it’s just hard to be 100%. I saw a movie “Gwen” this year that was a lot like The Witch but is it horror? Who knows

Whelp I’m actually in labor at the hospital and about to have a baby sooooo gotta go!

    1. I know… introspective while hitting you in the face with the plot of the movie in all the tapestries and stuff. It worked on Hereditary, so hey, let’s do it to exhaustion!
I didn’t even notice the fake flowers, but it’s good to know… lol!
I was wondering about that. I wish you all the best and hope you’ve had a smooth, as easy as possible delivery. Keep us posted!

    2. Whoa! Yikes! ha ha Speaking of Horror… Nah, I know you ladies have that special motherly power to endure childbirth. Congratulations! We’re so happy for you! And yes, keep us posted!
      -J

  4. I agree with how well made this movie was and how fun it was. The look of the boar was astounding. I had no gripes with any cgi, and the practical was spot on. John Jarrats performance was great! Him and his buddy’s performance felt authentic during the campsite scene. The feel of the local bar felt realistic/homie feeling. The more I think about the movie, the more I keep wanting to raise my rating. Going with an 8.5* as of now.

Recently rewatched Chawz, a Korean killer boar movie, and I was completely let down by how much of a bore it was. Way to much drama, and the run time felt 50minutes too long. Which is a shame, because the premise was great, the Boar itself looked good, had some good tense moments, but not enough.

I remember loving Pig Hunt when it first came out, hope I can find it somewhere.

Regarding whether a movie is horror or not. I tend to lean with J’s style of thinking about what is horror, trying to categorize it within other genres it could also pertain to. No Escape is horror, and I am willing to die on that hill with you J. Thriller/horror/action/ drama. I also love the idea of going with full blown horror though. Which I would think be horror classified first and foremost before adding any other genres. Example No Escape is Thriller/horror= non full blown horror. Killing of a sacred dear is Horror/black comedy=full blown horror. Backcountry drama/adventure/horror. Parasite black comedy/drama/thriller?/ absoultelynothorrorinanywayshapeorform. Hopefully I am making sense.

And last, Tigers are not Afraid was overhyped. I did think it was a good movie, but I thought it was horror going into it, but didn’t see that at all in it. Which lead to my overall disappointment.
And I am part of the overhyping Midsommar group. I loved it from start to finish, absolute bonkers, loved Florence Pugh, looking forward to rewatching it again. I felt creeped out the second they arrived.

Love listening to y’all! Such a great format.

    1. Spot on on Boar, Sam. Such a great movie. And what you said about home? That’s exactly how I felt about it.

  5. Great points Sam, I agree 100% with all your statements.

I do understand while many people like Midsummer. I for one think it’s way overhyped. The cult sub genre don’t do it for me. I just don’t find that scenario engaging or even believable. It was filmed very well and definitely had an in-depth story.

    Have a great day!
