Leprechaun Returns (2018) — Genre Classification: Horror / Fantasy / Slasher / Comedy / Campy Schlock, B-Horror Movie

Premise:
This is the eighth installment of the Leprechaun series, but this eighth film totally disregards movies 2 through 7. So, this movie is a sequel to the first movie from 1993, and it takes place 25 years later, in Devil’s Lake, North Dakota, just like the first movie.

We have the daughter of Jennifer Aniston’s character from the first movie. She and a few sorority sisters are fixing up the old O’Grady home and turning it into a sorority house for Alpha Upsilon (whose initials are “AU,” which yes, is how the periodic table denotes gold). The vile leprechaun returns again in search of his gold, and he’ll kill anyone who tries to get in his way!

Ratings and Recommendations: Leprechaun Returns (2018)
Jay of the Dead = 5.5 ( Low-priority Rental )
BillChete = 6 ( Buy it! )
Lady Phantom = 6 ( Rental )

Next on Episode 035: Crimson Peak (2015) — Lady Phantom’s pick!

I’ve been a chronic hand washer, remote control, phone, soda bottles, chip bags washer for many years & very anal about touching door knobs & the toilet even going to the bathroom I take precautions. I have whole things about grabbing the bottom of a door when out in public like very crazy ocd stuff & I don’t get sick no sore throats no colds nothing so i’m not worried about corona though hope you all stay healthy especially with your underlying health issues

Ok now onto the movie. Haven’t seen the newest one but want to. I have the box set of the first 8 films & its great cuz of the special features so even if you don’t love the movies I say still get it for them & it’s cool for your horror collection as well.

How can you not like freddy krueger? That’s crazy to me. Also crazy that anyone could like that bad remake. I do love wishmaster which is an underrated horror flick. I have that 4 movie set as well in my collection. I saw bloodshot with vin diesel & was a good standard 6 rated action flick.

So Jay likes the package of the new leprechaun. Bad Shabona Bad Shabona…

Tony, we’re also very careful about touching stuff, and I always carry hand sanitizer. We almost never get sick either. Unfortunately, I think there’s more to this virus than there is to others. There’s no harm in being extra, extra careful.
So yeah, give the new movie a try. It’s cool.
For the record, I do like Freddy Krueger. I like NoES 1 and 3, Freddy vs. Jason and the remake. 1 and 3 were cool and interesting; F vs. J was original, plus it introduced me to Jason. It was a lot of fun. The remake was super dark, and I’ve never compared it to the original because it’s just different. The rest of the Nightmares are just bad. I remember being disappointed with 2, being happy with 3, and when I saw 4 it pissed me off how bad it was, so I stopped watching religiously. And of course, Wishmaster is amazing.

I had that 7-film collection and when I got Leprechaun Returns I threw out the disc of Leprechaun: Origins (yuck) and replaced it with Returns. I agree with Jay that this feels very similar to Puppetmaster: The Littlest Reich, but I definitely like Lep Returns more. I feel like this one is a trade-off because you don’t get Warwick but you do get some great gore and magical trickery, which I remember was lacking in the later installments. In Back to the Hood I just remember him ripping someone’s arm off and rapping. Also, I agree that the human characters were all pretty annoying except Ozzie. Nice episode! I enjoyed it.

Glad you enjoyed the episode!
That’s an idea right there. I don’t think we’d do that, but that’s a very good idea. And I agree about the trade off. It doesn’t hurt that the new leprechaun guy is very decent too.

Yeah lady I’m glad I do what I do to try n stay germ free & not get sick. So elm st 4 is my favorite & as I call it the best superhero movie cuz thats what It is essentially, part 2 is second as i think it’s scary & freddy is scary then dream warriors is 3rd. Hate FvJ it’s not what us die hard fans wanted & not very good. Elm st remake was definitely better than that horrible Friday the 13th remake. Wishmaster is like the leprechaun as you get your wish but not in the way you actually want it. Tell bill I said what’s up!

Oh my… your faves are the ones I don’t like, me thinks. Lol! And, since FvJ was my intro to Jason, I really liked it. Also, I really liked the Friday the 13th remake. But then again, I was never a die hard slasher fan, you see. It’s only in the last few years that I’ve learned to appreciate the slasher genre.
Told Bill you said hi, he says hi back.

Yes I noticed we like the complete opposite elm st movies lol. Yeah bill is the slasher lover. Speaking of bill I listened to an old episode of LOTC he was on about friday the 13th & once again I was agreeing with him on stuff specifically the Halloween comments he was making & I agree jamie lee curtis was nothing special & that any Friday final girl could’ve played that role & that the Friday theme music is way better than Halloween which is totally true. About to listen to a Friday the 13th episode of HMP with bill as well & from memory he was hilarious on that episode about friday 8 Jason Takes Manhattan so looking forward to hearing it again. Bill is the man!

What can I say, he is the man! Hehe! And yeah, honestly, the more I watch Halloween, The more flaws I finds with it. I’m really tired of people putting Halloween on a pedestal and dissing Friday the 13th. They’re not perfect movies, but they are a lot of fun. I still love Halloween 2, but that’s more because it was my first slasher than anything else. I mean, as a slasher, it’s far better than Halloween… but there are things about it that are just not good. Sigh.

Lol he really is the man. Totally agree as Halloween is so overrated! Has some great stuff but overall I find it to be mostly boring & laurie strode is an overrated final girl. Love Halloween 2! It’s so good. Definitely better than the original. My favorite mask of the series & features the best version of Michael Myers. Part 4 is my favorite though then part 2. The original Friday the 13th is overrated to me too & the middle is boring like Halloween. They both have great final acts though. On a side note I just read about your mayor & she seems really dumb so u guys be safe out there in vegas!

Lol… my fave F13 is part 3. That 3D is amazing.
Ah, yeah, the mayor. I was watching the interview, and of course, we’ve been listening to her for weeks. She’s really something.

I just saw the story on twiitter. She sounds like trump lol.

I’m not the biggest fan of part 3. The 3d is funny. I love the eye popping scene & the one where he kills in the mask for the 1st time. Last 20 minutes is incredible though! Can’t believe they killed a pregnant chick. The jason flashback of the girl being chased by Jason is so odd & makes no sense. Part 5 is my favorite unfortunately I can’t find the poster of the vhs box so had to get 2 different ones for my horror wall

I love the 3D in part 3. Without it, it’s just goofy. lol

Agree with both of ya the more I watch any Halloween the more critical I have become. It has definitely lost its appeal to me.

Hey brotha thanks appreciate you too! Listened to HMP episode about Friday 7, 8 & 9 & listening to you & dr shock playfully arguing about Jason takes Manhattan & it’s even funnier than I remembered about the lack of taking Manhattan aspect lol. Yeah let’s not tell GregAMortis & others about our Halloween views lol but yeah I’ve been having these thoughts about Halloween. Listening to LOTC Friday 1-4 episode was funny cuz I was just agreeing with you about all your Halloween views while others totally didn’t agree but must be their nostalgia about Halloween talking. Great to relisten to all those episodes.

I love the original 4 Leprechaun movies
Leprechaun- 9*
Leprechaun 2&3-7*
Leprechaun 4-6*
Warwick Davis is incredible in them. Love the witty comedy aspect and especially since it doesn’t take away the fact that he is such a threat. Enjoyed the storyline to each movie.
Hated the In da hood movies. Especially the second one. I enjoyed Origins as a stand alone movie 5.5*.
Returns is a solid addition and sequel to the original despite the leprechaun not being Warwick. 6.5*

Cool, Sam! I really need to rewatch that in space movie… 3 and 4, actually.
Warwick is a delight to watch. He always is. I really hope he gets involved in horror again at some point soon.
