Comments here, please!
Very good review, Billchette, Phantom, & Jay. That drive-in movie comment opens up a whole new dimension to appreciating this movie. If I saw this in a drive-in I might of had more fun because it’s a great drive-in type of movie.
But, alas, I watched this movie on my PC, alone, in Covid quarantine, so I was more negative and critical about it, and maybe I complained too much to Jay about over selling it in his ‘Considering the Cinema’ forum, or maybe not.
I’ll stick to my 6/10 rating on this one. The monster and the concept were very cool in this movie, but I really hated the dumb ‘teen movie’ tropes that were shoehorned in there. The teen movie business dialed the potential horror down way too much, so overall the movie sucked. There’s some awesome monster moments there, but it sucked. I’m trying for the Joe-Bob-Briggs vocabulary in my expression; I think he would say ‘it sucked’.
Lol… to each their own, Nick. I agree, it could’ve been way scarier.
Glad you liked our review!
This movie is probably the surprise of the year for me. I was not expecting to like this as much as I did. Bonus points for including something bursting out of someone, creatures bursting out of people is one of my favorite things to see in horror (Nightmare on Elm St Part 2, The Thing, Demons (1985) ) 7.5/10 for me.
It had so many cool and creepy ideas, and it was scary at times. I am happy and frustrated with it, I really wanted to love this movie because of the concept/story and what they were trying to achieve, but unfortunately I doesn’t quite do it justice. I had issues with the some of the writing and some of the acting. Some of the acting felt a little too “kid horror tv series”, I can’t explain it.
I really hope the people involved with this movie give this another try, remake it or do an alternate story with better writing and acting, and really flesh out the lore and story of this antagonist. There’s something special here and it would be a shame if they dropped this idea.
