  1. This movie has been on my watchlist for three years. You guys have not only motivated me to watch this, I am determined to finally revisit the Saw franchise. I loved the original but never got into the sequels. I am looking forward to going through it again and listening to you guys talk about it in your franchise review.

Two weeks in a row you guys are in agreement! Will the streak continue? Tune in next week

  2. Wait, what?! More agreement?! Ha. Okay, I’m in. I’ll check this one out! I loved the original, and saw a few after that in the franchise as well, but somehow dropped off before this one… but after hearing your review I am gonna get this one in the queue. I found the discussion about the subgenres interesting too. I am one of those fans who loves it all, from the torture porn to the “artsy” type, as well as some good ol’ fashioned slasher style of movies. There is plenty of room under the horror umbrella, and wish there wasn’t such a divide of camps between the styles. I came to love horror originally through movies like TCM, The Shining, and the slashers of the eighties, and only over time have come to really appreciate the more cerebral stuff. Back in the day I thought the best Alien movie was Aliens FOR SURE, but now would say the original Alien is by far my favorite. Some of the scariest movies to me now are movies like Funny Games and Killing Ground, which don’t even have much onscreen violence at all, but are still effective with their use of realism and forcing the viewer to imagine for themselves what happened just out of frame. Tastes change and evolve, and I am happy to just appreciate good horror movies regardless of the subgenre. If it’s good, it’s good. Can’t a gal love Martyrs, Midsommar, and Michael Myers? I have found room in my little horror heart for it all.

Thanks for the recommendation, I will look forward to watching it, as well as Spiral next year. And Jay, definitely check out Cube!
