  1. Oh no! Jay, I fear that you are about to be as fooled by the marketing for Promising Young Woman as I was! While the trailer depicted a dark thriller which teased horror, a lot of it plays more like a dark comedy. I’d actually argue that you could throw more scenes into a romantic-comedy bucket than a horror bucket. Still worth a watch to see what the fuss is about, though. Glad this take exists in the rape-revenge canon, but I feel the need to temper your expectations before you get disappointed.

    1. Inbred Coop,

I’m with you, my friend! I have no idea why people are lumping Promising Young Woman into HORROR category. I went easy on this topic when I BRIEFLY talked about this on the show, but if I had more time to say my piece, I’d essentially say what you’ve just said here. Ha ha. It’s a fine enough movie. I have my issues with it… one or two or three major issues, actually… but it’s a good one!

  2. Hi Jay of the Dead, Mister Watson, Channy! Vicious Victor here. Thanks for this episode! ‘Leatherface’ has been in my to be watched list for a while. I have a friend who recently moved to Texas and this might be a good one for us to watch “together” at some point. I’ll tell her about this show for starters.

I’m happy to hear you’re covering ‘The Conjuring 2’ next. I was not a fan of the first Conjuring movie, though every creative change they made for the sequel I absolutely loved. I am not a man of faith, yet I am a huge fan of depictions of faith in movies when done well. This is one of those times. I’m also into the setting/time period (looking forward to Edgar Wright’s new movie (horror!) ‘Last Night in Soho’ later this year.

  3. You are a man after my own heart, Vicious Victor! You are someone with whom I must speak more!

Dude, I DID rather love the first Conjuring movie, and I guess I’d better keep you in suspense about my thoughts on the sequel, but man… we had a lot of fun on that episode.

I must say, I LOVE it when my more secular homies enjoy themselves some religious-themed horror. My buddy, JP (of the The 22 Shots of Moodz and Horror Podcast), has long maintained that even though he’s not a man of faith, either… he doesn’t NEED to be in order to tap into the terrors inherent in this horror sub-genre. I find that to be a rather eloquent take! 🙂

    Much love, my friend.

  4. Catching up on the podcasts (job, graduate program, etc.). I had mixed feelings about Leatherface as well. I too briefly worked at a funeral home while in college. (1) no one told me that dead bodies still move; (2) the reason my tenure was brief was that I once had to help remove a corpse from a noose–I like my death on horror fictionalized! Keep up the great work. All the best,

    1. Pastor Matt, I always appreciate your comments, good sir! Also… I just wanted to formally thank you for the kind words you and Jackson had to say about us here on HMW. That means a lot. 🙂

As for your funeral home experiences… WOW! The bodies move? What? Is it the eventual expulsion of bodily gases and such that causes a body to move when it shouldn’t? I’m curious about this! Ha ha. And yes… I, too, prefer my death fictionalized. I helped clean up after a suicide once, and as hardcore as I am about cinema, I can’t say the same for real life horror. No, sir! Much love, Pastor Matt!
