  1. Hello guys,

First off, I thank you all for the kind words following my message to Jay. It made my day very special.
Isn’t it nice and powerful, how emotions are able to cross mikes, compression, miles, even cultures, and still come up vibrant and genuine on the other side?

That was a great episode, for a riveting movie. I couldn’t watch it in a detached way: actors were doing such a good job that they dragged me into their story.
That notion of “proximity to the movie” can easily be flawed, from the disruptive fourth-wall-breaking of characters acknowledging the camera and us, to the actors-not-characters not taking the role that seriously, to the sometimes incoherent situations breaking the movie world rules.

Now, I hesitated writing the following, because I didn’t want to become “that care bear listener from France”, and that it is not necessarily episode-related. But I think it is relevant to the podcast, and I wanted to ping pong some feelings back to you guys, since you do just that each episode.

I’m talking about Channy Dreadful: you bring a counterpoint to the trio, almost in the musical sense.
Yes, you do play on the same key as the others, and the resulting composition is strong.
But also, you bring an inner rhythm and melody that sometimes seem to go somewhere different, only to end up connecting new ideas to the common discussion.
I’m amazed how it seems seamless and effortless, not forced. And since I’m guessing you are not rehearsing episodes together before recording, I can only marvel at the harmony. It’s like the backing voice in a song suddenly coming to the front, and giving a whole additional meaning.

And a last word. I really hope it doesn’t come as sexist or controversial.
Maybe I’m biased from the culture and language difference, but I have noticed that it’s not uncommon for women hosts in the US podcasts I listen to, to be maybe just a tad more boisterous that I feel they really are. And in fact, it does also go along with male hosts being loud and talking fast, so maybe it’s just a balance thing.
But in HMW, I find you bring a feminine tone that is just perfect. Considerate, subtle, grounded, and also facetious, adventurous, emotional.

It’s so great that your three voices textures and cadences are perfectly separate and recognizable, but even better that each voice triggers complementary emotions. Channy, thank you so much for the warmth and the light of your voice.

    P.S: Mister Watson … you’re next 🙂

    1. WOW! You captured Channy’s voice perfectly in this comment! So well worded, my friend! I’m going to text her about this so she sees this right away!

And me next? Oh, gosh… LOL!

    2. You are correct sir! Nothing is rehearsed and my antics are always sprung completely out of nowhere. Hehehe

More importantly — Thank you SO much for all of your kind words! It has been such a blessing being able to talk horror with two of my fav gum dudes every week. It is always something I look forward to! Both of them bring such intelligent insight and shine light on things that could have gone right by me. They pick up every note and beat of whatever it is the writers, actors, and directors have hidden amongst the film itself.

I do agree that I definitely sometimes sing a different tune and I am so happy to hear that you think what I do compliments the other hosts.

I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to cross paths with you, all thanks to horror movie weekly!

  2. Catching up on the podcast. First of all going back to the Saint Maud episode, as a pastor who has often preached in Fright Rags tee-shirts, Mister Watson, you would be welcome at my church. Second, I love “Gerald’s Game”! Carla Gugino deserved award consideration for an amazing performance. Keep up the great work. Maybe Jay will remember where he lives now that something evil is showing up after he vacuums. All the best.

    1. Pastor Matt,

I will HAPPILY attend your church, my friend!

Also… allow me to say that I love the show you do with your son. When I had my old solocast, Horror Corridor, I often podcasted with my own son, and those were always my favorite episodes. In fact, the intention was… at one point… for him to be my permanent co-host back in 2017, but that didn’t wind up working out, unfortunately. In any case, the father/son relationship is of the utmost importance to me, and I love the work you and your boy do together! It’s so refreshing and cool! Much love, always.

  3. Jay, I was laughing when you told your story about getting pranked with the police. Once upon a time, I was minding my own business hanging out with some friends is a restaurant, when I noticed a police officer was standing next to me (in a very creepy manner I might add, not saying anything and just staring at me).

I said, “Good evening officer, is there something I can help you with?”

He replied, “We’ll see. Can you step outside with me please?”

I wasn’t that worried, because *I* knew I hadn’t broken any laws, but he asked me for ID and ran a check on me.

It turns out some jerk in the restaurant had been watching America’s Most Wanted, and thought I looked like one of the kidnappers they had profiled and called the cops on me! Anyway, just wanted to let you know you’re not the only one that’s been taken away from the table by the police.

    1. Eric! It’s so cool seeing you here on this site! LOL.

I have never heard this story before! Have you told it on Dark Discussions or Askancity before because it’s new to me! Ha ha. Wow! I’m glad you didn’t do any hard time, buddy!
