“Round Two goes to Kong.” We are back again — two weeks in a row for another rousing (and arousing) episode of Horror Movie Weekly, One Badass Horror Podcast! This is Episode 169, where we review Mister Watson’s pick for this week, Brightwood (2023) — not “Brightburn,” the evil Superman boy movie. No, this week we’re looking at another shape of Horror, the infinite circle. A loop. The redundant lap. Lap dance. $5 per patron. Anyway, we also bring you Watson’s entertaining story about drama at a barbecue, as well as Jay of the Dead’s characteristic nonsense-spewing. Alas, we have a lot of fun, so we hope you will join us! Thanks for listening.

This weekly Horror movie podcast brings you one recent Horror movie review every Sunday. (As noted previously, we’re defining “recent” as any Horror movie released within the last five years or the current year; so now that it’s 2024, we’ll be covering Horror films from 2019 to the present.) And we always reveal next week’s pick at the end of every show, so you can watch along with us and be prepared for the following episode. Thanks for listening!

There’s a variation of The Shape of Horror, an irregular hexagon, that is often seen as the shape of a coffin. It’s seen when you look at a coffin from the top, the lid. There is another design where it has a hexagonal shape from the end of the coffin, looking at it from the head or the foot, and another when you look from the side. These three dimensional objects are called hexagonal prisms, adding an extra dimension to your Shape of Horror.
So, Horror Movie Weekly hosts and listeners, what horror sub-genre features lots of coffins? I guess many horror movies will have them, but for me vampire movies really stand out. Here are some examples:
Nosferatu (1922)–The coffins of the plague victims.
Salem’s Lot (1979)—Barlow’s coffin—seen at the end of the movie, the final showdown.
Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979)–all of Dracula’s coffins transporting himself and the plague.
Nosferatu (2024)–again the coffins of the plague victims, Eggers’ nod to the famous procession of coffins from the earlier Nosferatu films.
My friend, I will NEVER tire of these amazing observations! Terrific work yet again, good sir!
