I kind of know where Jay is coming from on this. This movie is a mess and a cornucopia of weird ideas that don’t connect very well, but for some unexplainable reason I kind of enjoyed it. Not a recommendation though, lol.
Lol!! That’s fine. I really wish I had enjoyed it more, but alas, it was not to be.
I was very excited when I heard Jay pick this last week and I loved the heated discussion as always. This film is a weird little delight for me. I haven’t seen it since 2017 when it came out (it made my top ten list) but I remember being unsettled by the whole experience of watching it. The aesthetic of the film, whatever the reasons for it, really contributed to that and fit the subject matter. I remember reading about the sordid history of the making of this film. I don’t remember if it were before or after I watched it, but it added to the whole experience for me. 7/10. I’m right there with Jay.
Of course I am just a fan, not a critic by any means. I am a painter/visual artist for what it’s worth. From that perspective I really appreciated the artistry of The Evil Within
On the other hand Jay, Suspiria is in my all time top ten so I cringe whenever you mention it. But to each his own!
