Do you like scary movies? We have one for ya! In addition to our Feature Review, we also bring you Micro Horror Movie Reviews of “Gaia” (2021), “Midnight Mass” (2021), “Storm of the Century” ( for when you get snowed in), and “The Deep House” (2021). Note: This episode was recorded on November 15, 2021, and was released on January 16, 2022.

This weekly Horror movie podcast brings you one recent Horror movie review every Sunday. 5 thoughts on “Ep. 109: The Medium (2021)”

  1. I have a small online horror group, and 3 of the 4 of us had Midnight Mass as our #1 horror of 2021. I think it is truly something special and Flanagan’s best work. I think the more background and experience one has with religion, the more profound and engaging this will be be for the viewer. Jay, I think you really have to watch this one, might have to take a short break from Forensic Files to check it out 😉🤣

    1. If I had included mini-series in my list this would have definitely made my top ten. I was shocked how much Flanagan made me care about what happened to the characters. Best character development I’ve seen all year.

      1. Absolutely! The Pastor is perhaps one of the most well rounded, nuanced, and “human” characters I’ve ever seen in a film/show. There are so many great characters and it is probably the greatest strength of the show. Glad to hear it would make your top 10 🙂

    2. One of my podcaster buddies had Midnight Mass as his #1 of the year as well. He works for the Catholic Church and is a devout Christian, so I’m guessing this show opts to depict religion in a nuanced way?

Flanagan almost always delivers to me, so I need to make time to check this show out. I LOVED The Haunting of Hill House, but Bly Manor put me to sleep. LOL.

      1. I think you should definitely check it out. The amazing thing about the show is I think you can come to it as a devout Christian (or Jew/Muslim) or a staunch atheist, and appreciate where both sides are coming from. It respectfully and thoughtfully looks at the full spectrum of religion and the psychology behind it. It also highlights the both the values ,and potential dangers, religion can offer. I know of Christian podcasts that have nothing to do with film/television, that dedicated episodes to appreciating this show, which is pretty telling and remarkable. For me, this was the most profound piece of horror I watched in 2021, acknowledging it is a slight cheat being a mini-series rather than a film. Given Flannagan’s impressive contributions to the horror genre over the last decade, I feel any horror fan should check it out 🙂 Thanks for all your hardwork on the podcast, love listening to Watson, Projectile Varmint, and Jay of the Dead every week =D
