Ep. 122: Killing Ground (2017)

Horror Movie Weekly Ep. 122: Killing Ground (2017)

In the haunting words of Sarah McLachlan, “There’s always some reason to feel not good enough,” and that is certainly the case after watching this week’s Feature Review: Damien Power’s Killing Ground (2017). Another reason to not feel good enough is because Mister Watson was unable to join us for this episode; however, we make up for it with a very special guest…

That’s right! Here in Episode 122 of Horror Movie Weekly, Projectile Varmint and Jay of the Dead welcome special guest and friend-of-the-show, Horror_Heart (aka “Libby”) from the Pacific Northwest! In addition to joining us to help us review this brutal Horror film, Libby reviews a Horror video game and sent us a Killing Ground-themed drawing, which you can find in the show notes below! This is a fun episode, so join us! Remember, you are welcome to call and leave us a voicemail at (801) 215-9704. Join us!

Note: This episode was recorded on August 24, 2022, and was released on September 13, 2022.

This weekly Horror movie podcast brings you one recent Horror movie review every Sunday. (We’re defining “recent” as any Horror movie released within the last five years, so now that it’s 2022, we’ll be covering Horror films from 2017 to the present.) And we always reveal next week’s pick at the end of every show, so you can watch along with us and be prepared for the following episode. Join us, and thanks for listening!

  1. Libby did an excellent job on this episode! I think I’m around the same score as Suzie was on Killing Ground. I remember like ng it a lot when it came out and think I heard about it from HMP.

I really like all three of the mini review titles you mentioned too. Moloch is hanging around my top 15 horror right now and I’ve always liked May. I loved The Quarry too and even did a short bonus episode of Screaming Through the Ages about it. I love that type of game and especially Supermassive’s games.

I can’t wait for Watson and Jay to be taught a lesson next week haha.

    1. Thank you so much, Trey! It was such an honor to get to hang with HMW for an evening! It pretty much made my year!
That’s so cool you loved The Quarry too! I’m gonna have to find your Screaming Through The Ages episode about it. These cinematic interactive choose your own adventure style games are some of my faves! I just checked out As Dusk Falls too, a mistake purchase while thinking it was the game Until Dawn. Haha! The old similar title trick. I liked it though, good story with cool art. But it is not as cinematic as The Quarry, it’s more like a sequence of stills. I think it may be an Xbox original. I’m excited to check out more Supermassive games in the future.
      Thanks again for the compliment!
      -Libby

      1. Oh I think I’ve heard of that, but haven’t played it. That’s funny you bought it by mistake though haha. I’m with you and love the choose your own adventure games. I think Until Dawn is my favorite of Supermassive’s still, but The Quarry is a close second. I also liked House of Ashes from them and really like the Life is Strange games too. I’m glad you had a good time on the episode and I hope to hear you back on it again sometime!

    2. Trey,
I listened to your episode on The Quarry. Great review! I subbed to your podcast, too! Excited to dive into more of your episodes as well.

      1. Libby,
Thank you so much! I’m glad you liked it and hope you like the podcast! I’d love to hear any feedback you have if you have any.
