Ep. 141: Malignant (2021)

Horror Movie Weekly Ep. 141: Malignant (2021)

Maybe this episode has been creeping up on you, somewhere in the back of your mind. If so, now is the time for you to get ahead! Why have the Fearsome Foursome not reviewed James Wan’s Malignant (2021) yet? Well, the time has come. Jay of the Dead had never seen this film until this episode. He was about two years late to the party. Unfortunately, Mister Watson, Projectile Varmint and Channy Dreadful were unable to attend this recording. However, we are pleased to report that special guest Composer Kagan Breitenbach joined Jay to review this gnarly Horror movie. That’s right! Here in Episode 141 of Horror Movie Weekly, Jay and Kagan also bring you Micro Horror Movie Reviews of “The Invitation” (2022) and “Dead in 3 Days” (2006) — as well as a bunch of other entertaining banter! Join us and remember, you are welcome to call and leave us a voicemail at our working voicemail number: (801) 899-9798.

Note: This episode was recorded on May 31, 2023, and was released on June 13, 2023.

This weekly Horror movie podcast brings you one recent Horror movie review every Sunday. (We’re defining “recent” as any Horror movie released within the last five years or the current year; so now that it’s 2023, we’ll be covering Horror films from 2018 to the present.) And we always reveal next week’s pick at the end of every show, so you can watch along with us and be prepared for the following episode. Join us, and thanks for listening!

One thought on “Ep. 141: Malignant (2021)”

  1. I’m kind of amazed to hear anybody say that that this movie was taken ‘100% dead seriously.’ It so absurd and silly as it goes a long. I only warmed up to it a little bit as I realized it was trying to be funny because I found it generally stupid and entirely un-frightening. When we get to the jail cell scene and Zoe Bell shows up with a mullet looking like she’s cosplaying as a character from Roadhouse along side a woman cosplaying as a 70s blaxploitation heroine it crosses into full on camp and nearing parody.

I don’t like James Wan in general, but there’s a little fun to be had in him having fun. But serious, this was not.

I think Jay would agree; it’s no Pigheaded Weed Whacker Killers Part 5.

Anyway, great episode all the same. I’m gonna check out some of that ‘Bloody Cabaret’ music soon.
